ABOUT CONTRAST
The pavilion is designed by zU-studio architecture and developed by Kaap de Groene Hoop.
The pavilion has been built on top of an old Dortmunder Ship, the construction is a contrast between the traditional way of steel building with a totally new abstract geometry that as a result creates a very exciting space.
The structure, formed by thin walls disposed in different angles, is inspired by Richard Serra’s sculpture at the Museumplein in Amsterdam. This new geometry generates different spaces interconnected with each other and opens to the IJ Water and gives a beautiful view from the City over the harbor.
The structure has been conceived to create depth. The different layers aim to generate
people’s natural curiosity. The building differs from all angles, giving you a transparent and open view from one side and a solid and opaque view from the other side.
